MMA NOTES-
Former heavyweight and current light heavyweight Carmelo ‘The Fury’ Marrero, who went 1-3 in the UFC with a victory over Cheick Kongo, lost his fight with Antwain Britt via unanimous decision over a week ago. Britt appeared on The Ultimate Fighter Season 8 but was forced to leave the show due to an injury. Marrero’s record falls to 10-4.

Former WEC Middleweight Champion Paulo Filho (18-1) def. IFL Veteran Alex Schoenauer (14-10) via Unanimous Decision in a MMA event in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The bout, contested at Light Heavyweight, was a bit slow paced with Filho looking for the takedown. He controlled the bout and picked up his second consecutive victory since his sabattical late last year following his first ever loss in the WEC.

Rising heavyweight prospect Dave “Pee Wee” Herman picked up a signature career win over a notable opponent on Saturday with a swift, 60-second TKO victory over MMA trailblazer Don Frye. Herman, a former Indiana University wrestler, moves to 15-1 with the win. All 15 victories have come via stoppage, and the Frye win was his 14th to come in the first round. Frye, meanwhile, drops to 20-9-1 with the defeat, which was his third in four fights for the 43-year-old Veteran.

UFC and PRIDE Veteran Jeremy ‘Gumby’ Horn picked up a victory over The Ultimate Fighter 8 castoff Jason Guida on Saturday. Horn secured the fight-ending arm-triangle choke after the main-event fight went to the ground. Guida has lost 5 straight.

Welterweight Danillo Villefort, who was released by the UFC following his loss at UFC 101, will look to turn things around when he returns to action this Saturday against Bill Saures in Guam.
