Mike Nickels (8-2) submitted David Heath (13-6) via Rear Naked Choke at 4:02 of the third round over the weekend. The fight was action packed as both tried to look for the Knockout. At one point, Heath lowered his gloves and Nickels connected on 9 consecutive blows to the chin. Both Light Heavyweights have previously won and lost competing for the UFC.
Former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber (22-3 MMA, 7-2 WEC) has ended all speculation regarding a potential move to a competing organization and has signed a new multi-year, multi-fight deal with the WEC. WEC general manager Reed Harris announced the new deal yesterday.
“The Ultimate Fighter 6″ runner-up Tommy Speer (13-4) picked up his fourth win in five fights with a adominant unanimous-decision win over Travis Perzynski (8-6). The fight took place in Minnesota.
Middleweight and light-heavyweight fighters are invited to attend an open tryout for the upcoming 11th season of “The Ultimate Fighter” on Monday, Oct. 26. The tryouts for the UFC and Spike TV’s reality series takes place at the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel in California. Although not officially announced, “TUF 11″ is expected to debut in April with a live finale in June.
