Katie and Alex a tale of heroes and villains, love and betrayal, Bush Tucker Trials and a cross-dressing cage-fighter winning over the Celebrity Big Brother audience.

Every Thursday without fail my wife and I would watch Katie & Peter on ITV2, a programme we would both enjoy together, following the lives of Katie and Peter, post jungle romance. We saw their fun times along with many tense and not so fun times as the cracks emerged in their fairy-tale romance. Little did we know we, the public would be forced to pick sides a kin to a civil war, during the conflict between Team Andre and Team Pricey.

Katie Price’s split with Peter Andre, followed by her fledgling romance  with Alex Reid was undoubtedly one of the biggest stories of 2009. Alison Maloney’s book – Katie & Alex The Inside Story, focusses on Katie and Alex’s romance, giving us the full story quoting all sources. What I like is the positive slant Alison gives us in her writing, rather than the negative way the press splash headlines across the front page in order to increase circulation.

To sum it up,  this paperback would be one to buy for the missus, then sneakily read it yourself. Surely a fight fan wouldn’t admit to reading this? Especially when a good portion of cage-fighting enthusiasts still boo the Aldershot-cockney mixed martial artist known as the Reidernater.

Wow, it’s all happening for the national man of the moment Alex Reid. Straight after winning over the nation and being voted by the public to win Celebrity Big Brother 7, Alex jetted off to Las Vegas with Katie Price to marry his glamour girlfriend. Next stop is appearing on the ITV2 programme What Katie Did Next, starting this Thursday at 9pm.

That’s not all, despite the cage fighter’s new found celebrity status, Alex is working hard in training, towards a title showdown against Tom ‘Kong’ Watson on 15th May. Building up to the bout in May, you can follow Alex in his very own programme – Alex Reid: Fight For His Life. The 6 part series airing on Bravo, following Alex in training towards his title clash in May.

In related news,  BAMMA the promotion banner The Reidernater will be fighting under is back with brand new programme on Bravo. BAMMA 2 kicks off Sunday 21st February.

And why not? The guy deserves a break. In the media the Ultimate Challenge UK1 kickboxing middleweight champion has been made to look a villain, as a member of Team Pricey. Granted he wasn’t known as a fan favourite before hooking up with glamour girl Katie Price but we all know that is all part of the show when it comes to getting heat and selling a fight. Look at the examples of UFC fighters Brock Lesnar, Frank Mir and Tito Ortiz.  A fighter who receives boos is great for the box office.

I have decided to back Aldershot lad Alex Reid, as a fan of MMA but fear the majority of the voting public will vote him out early, due to the nation’s backlash against Katie Price. On the other hand there is the possibility of the cage fighter receiving some level of sympathy following Jordan dumping him live on air, when she left ITV’s reality TV show I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here. Who knows, we shall have to wait and see.

According to many sources it appears Alex and Jordan are back on good terms, in fact Jordan has given her seal of approval to mixed martial artist Alex appearing the show. The press are saying she held a party before the contestants entered the CBB7 house, attended by both Alex Reid and her old flame Dane Bowers, formerly of pop R&B sensation. Oh and don’t believe the hype, that these 2 Big Bro contestants had a punch-up. From my understanding they are mutual friends of Katie Price, not 2 blokes fighting over the former page 3 model.

It’s early days, so far Alex has made  a good impression, interacting well with the rest of the Celebrity Big Brother 7 house mates. He doesn’t come across a villain he is often portrayed to be.

I feel Alex Reid despite his cross-dressing antics the tabloids have all leapt on, he is doing Brit MMA a lot of good, helping it go mainstream. Let’s face it any fighter be it in a mixed martial arts bout or stand-up K1 rules contest facing Alex Reid will be making a name for themselves off his name. It all equals more tickets sold which cannot be a bad thing for all involved in the British MMA business.
